4. Environmental policies and Acts in India
Policies play a major in saving the environment from rapid urbanization. Here we will be overlooking few of the Indian policies and regulation in effect till date to preserve, conserve and protect the environment.
Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 [1]
This is an act which provides for the protection of wild animals, birds and plants and for matters connected therewith or ancillary or incidental thereto with a view to ensuring the ecological and environmental security of the country.
The Forest Conservation Act, 1980
The main goal of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980[2]is to protect the natural habitat i.e forests, while also serving the fundamental requirement of those who shelter around it.
The Environmental Protection Act, 1986 [3]
This act covers all forms of pollution, air, water, soil and noise. It provides safe standards for the presence of various pollutants in the environment. It is an umbrella act that gives the central government the right to oversee environmental protection in India.
