6. Reduce your water footprint

Learn ways to reduce your water consumption by your actions and making changes in your house or workplace.

i) Say No to Wastage
The first step to save water is to turn off the running taps and fixing the leaking taps. Make sure to turn off the tap when not in use. A simple practice can reduce the water wastage.

ii) Install Low -Flow Faucets or leak proof the fixture to avoid water
Install water-efficient taps with an aerator or flow restrictor to use less water.Install lever or mixer taps, these save water by quickly reaching a desired temperature.Fix leaking taps and replace washers - even a slowly dripping tap can waste 10,000 litres of water over a year. Avoid washing up under running taps.

iii) Recycle Your Water Where You Can
Collect the cold water you run before it’s hot enough to shower and use it to water plants or flush the toilet (known as a bucket flush). Rinse water from dishes and food preparation can be collected and used to soak other dishes. Further, Install Rainwater harvesting plants to recharge ground water or store it for gardening or other purpose.

iv) Opt for the Dishwasher Over Hand Washing
It may be an expensive choice but worth investing for a longer run. Dishwashing saves a lot of water and can be used at one go rather than washing utensils 3-4 times a day.

v) Greywater Reuse
Greywater after secondary treatment processes can be reused for various purposes. With a filtration system it can be used for watering plants, gardening, washing or cleaning purposes.
