Module 13: Air and Atmosphere

Air is all around us. Yet it is the most ignored natural resource. It is something which we can't recycle or modify. Let's have a look on the major cause, sources and the structure of air and ways to recuce impact on it.

Module 13: Air and Atmosphere

Overview:

This module introduces the concept of air quality and air pollution. The causes, effects and control measures that can be taken to improve air quality are also discussed. We would also understand the sources of air pollutants and control technologies traditionally used in industries.

What you will learn :

  • Understand the layers of Earth’s atmospheric air : its structure, energy balance and composition
  • Identify key air pollutants and their sources and effects on the ozone layer
  • Measures taken to reduce and prevent air pollution
  • Policies related to air pollution and case studies on Air pollution
Concepts Covered :
Pollution Control, Air Quality, Air pollution, Environment

Topics:

1: Urban Air Quality

Rapid urbanization and growing poulation can give rise to more and more air pollution. Its sources are majorly from urban areas.

2: Air pollutants

Pollutants can be of two types : Primary and secondary. We will understand the origin of these pollutants.

3: Air Quality Standards

Air quality is an concern not only in the outdoor environment but indoors as well. we will know about the different pollutants , its sources and its impact on health , animal and environment.

4: Emission Patterns

Emissions have been further categorised into 3 types to understand its sources and severity and thereby include stratergies to the path of decarbonisation. This will give a brief introdution to the Scope 1 , Scope 2 and Scope 3 Emission patterns.

5: Policies for Air Pollution

Policies helps pevent and control the existing patterns and keep a check on future developments. Here are few of the policies for Air quality control in India.
